Education
Child Care Centre
Our community has a child care centre that
provides care for the toddlers and preschoolers
of residents living on the island. The building
is sectioned off so that the various ages
of children can interact. The activity rooms
convert into a nap area. There is a playground
outside with equipment for children to play on.

Our children go to the Christian Island
Elementary School from Junior Kindergarten
until they graduate from Grade 8. The student
population of the elementary school is just
over 100 students. The staff includes Education
Assistants, Early Childhood Educators, teachers,
the principal, a Resource Worker, a Student
Success Coordinator, and custodial staff.
Our school offers a full range of programs and
services. There is a focus on outdoor education A three sisters garden contains beans, corn, and

they are planted close to each other. First Nations

sisters garden, and ice fishing. Our students
spend a good deal of time participating in
cultural activities such as the powwow. We are
constructing a small cultural building where
students can learn about our culture and create
cultural objects.
Our elementary school operates on a balanced
school day with time for studying and for
breaks. It also hosts a breakfast program and
serves two hot meals twice per week for
our students.
