Recreation
Hockey is a popular activity in our community.
There are a lot of activities for people to enjoy on Christian
Island. We offer rough camping on all three islands through our
Lands department. People can also visit Fort St. Marie II. This
site was chosen as a national historic site of Canada in 1902
because it was the last Jesuit mission for the Huron-Wendat
people in the area. Although we do not offer boats that can be
reserved for private use, many people also come to the island
to participate in diving activities. There are several wrecks,
including schooners, barges, and even trucks located in waters
around the islands. Some of the wrecks are visible from the
surface of the water.
In the early summer or late summer, a popular after-school
activity for students in our community is to go to the beach
behind the school for a swim. Very adventurous students
might head to the dock to swim. They jump off the dock and
keep track of time by watching the ferry boat come and go! In
the winter months, popular things to do with friends include
tobogganing, skidooing, playing hockey at the local covered
rink, and participating in events organized for youth at the
recreation complex.
