Secondary
After graduating from the Christian Island Elementary School,
our students attend high school at St. Theresa’s Catholic High
School or Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland.
Some of our students have had success through an alternative
program called 7th Fire. This program is run through the Georgian
Bay Native Friendship Centre in Midland.
Most of our students ride on a ferry every morning and then
transfer to a school bus. Some students board in homes in
Midland. In the winter months, if the boats are unable to
operate because of ice conditions, all secondary students board
in homes on the mainland. The First Nation Administration office
takes care of the cost of boarding.
Post-Secondary
Some of our members attend a university or college of their
choice in Ontario or other parts of Canada. In many cases, the
First Nation Administration office looks after the cost, including
tuition, travel, books, and room and board. Many people also
attend training for a variety of skills so that our local expertise is
Avery Sandy and Caleb King, expanding rapidly. We take great pride in our students.
