Health and Physical Education: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education
Resource: Engaging Learners Through Play. Elementary Teachers’
Federation of Ontario. July 2017. Protect the Treasure, page 41:
This game is designed to show how power imbalances can affect
outcomes. Ready, Set, Play: Guard Ball, p. 43: The big idea here is
the impact of treaties on the relationships of Indigenous and non-
Indigenous peoples.
The Arts: Role-play/recreate treaty negotiations in the past and
what they might look like today. Blanket Exercise: Physically recreate
“sharing” the land (need a trained person to run this). For more
information on the Blanket Exercise, see the Kairos Canada website;
link on weblinks list
Mathematics: Ask students to measure treaty areas in different units,
comparing unit references in treaties—league, miles, acres.
