Economic Development
Georgina Island is a fertile island, with land that has been used
for both farming and logging. Neither one of these activities
is practised today, as we cannot make money from them. Our
present-day resources are our cottage properties, so tourism
has become the biggest economic activity on the islands. Rent
from cottage properties and money spent on the island by
WORDS TO KNOW cottage travellers account for a large portion of the income
flowing to our First Nation.

The Water Taxi is a new business
that was started to provide tours
or shuttles between the island and
the mainland.
In 2016, we opened the Island View Business Centre, replacing
a small building that housed a small restaurant venue. This hub
includes the Tobacco Trails, Virginia Beach Marina, Boondocks
Eatery, Lottery Centre, and First Nation Lands Management
Office. It brings in a large portion of the money that our
community earns.
