Education
Our Elders see education as very important They stress the
importance of being educated in both the First Nations and
non-Indigenous worlds.
Child Care
Binoojii House Child Care Centre opened in 2009. In 2018, we had
four staff members.
We are licensed by the provincial government for the
following programs:
• Infant Program (two infants; ages 6 months–18 months)
• Toddler Program (two toddlers; ages 18 months–30 months)
• Preschool Program (four preschool children;
ages 30 months–4 years old)
• Afterschool Program (four school-aged children;
ages 5 years old–12 years old)
We also have March Break, Summer Camp (running from early
July to the third week of August), and Professional Development
Day/Bus Cancellation Day programs.
We are extremely busy during the summer with planned trips/
outings two days per week. Past trips have included outings to
the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the
Art Gallery of Ontario. These trips allow hands-on activities for
the children.
Binoojii House is licensed to have Family Mixed Grouping, Toddler’s playground
which allows a maximum of 15 children in the same room with
two staff (for days where we have a staff shortage, e.g., sick
days/ holidays).
We have two Elders come in to teach Anishinaabemowin four
times a week. There are plans to have more cultural activities,
such as a children’s powwow, moccasin making, rattle making,
and games.
