Recreation
Moose Deer Point First Nation is a great place for our children
to play. There is no heavy traffic, so they can safely play
outside. Though there is no paved area for roller blading or
skateboarding, most children do not miss this because there are
other things to do. During the summer, they can go swimming
or fishing whenever they want. Also, there are organized
sports that they can take part in. At times, trips are arranged to
Canada’s Wonderland and other events.
The recreation programs in our community have been designed
to meet the needs of students who miss extra activities at
school because of the bus. Our tennis courts, basketball court,
and ball diamond are important places in our community.
Other recreational activities include the following:
• an after-school group for girls aged 9–16 that meets on
Mondays; the girls take part in crafts and games before
eating a light supper
• different events for all different ages
• all kinds of workshops; for example, craft nights, cultural
teachings, and walk and stretch classes
We also have fun gatherings that involve many in the
community throughout the year. Two of our celebrations are the
Halloween and Christmas parties.
Organized trips are done regularly. This trip was for berry picking.
