Ask a low-risk question from the Sample Circle Questions in
the Appendix. Choose one of the “talking stones” from your
medicine wheel on the whiteboard. Hand the stone to the
student who painted it. Ask them to describe its significance.
This student can sit next to the facilitator and be the first to
respond to the question in the circle. Continue passing the
stone around the circle.
Close the circle by offering praise for participating and
following norms. Ask, “How did it feel to be part of the circle?”

Choose a warm-up activity from the Sample Circle Activities in
the Appendix.
Ask a medium-risk question from the Sample Circle Questions
in the Appendix. Choose one of the talking stones from your
wall. Have the student who created the stone explain its
significance and then start the circle responses. Continue
passing the stone around the circle.
Ask students to rate themselves on how they are following
the circle norms by holding up 1 to 4 fingers. See Assessment
suggestions to assess.
