The resulting lessons aim to reflect the balance inherent in the
medicine wheel by being divided into emotional, physical, intellectual,
and spiritual sections.
The emotional portion is the minds-on opening circle. This section is
designed to engage students and provide an avenue for them to relate
to the material.
The physical section is a hands-on, experiential, step-by-step
procedure. It is designed to reveal new learning.
The intellectual section is an opportunity to respond to what is being
learned in the previous lesson, through informal or formal assessment.
Finally, the spiritual section provides a closing circle. This is a time to
reflect, consolidate learning, and think about what wonderings remain.
The lessons are designed to be teacher ready-to-use. They are meant
to be an entry point to learn about the local First Nation before
exploring the book further. Additional resource suggestions are made
for future inquiry and learning.
