                                                  Sports and Music

We are one of the few First Nations to boast famous athletes
and musicians among our people. Alderville had a well-known
baseball team from the early 1930s through to the early 1960s.
They were very competitive in the surrounding area.

Our most famous athlete, Fred Simpson, was a marathon
runner on the Canadian Olympic team for the 1908 Olympics
held in London, England. Fred Simpson went on to place sixth
in the Olympic marathon that year. He returned to Alderville a
                                                  successful Olympian.

                  Albert Smoke, Olympic marathon
                  runner, 1920. Albert’s mother
was from Curve Lake First Nation
where he spent most of his time.
                  His father was from Alderville
                  First Nation.
