Water Rights
Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation has been under a boil
water advisory since 2008. This means that our water is not safe
to drink. It has to be boiled for at least one minute before we
use it for drinking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables,
and brushing our teeth.
It seems strange to have a community right in the heart of
Ontario without safe drinking water. In this part of our country,
people are so used to safe water that we have had to place
signs in every public place to ensure people do not forget they
cannot safely drink the water from our taps. Water must be
boiled for a minimum of one minute before it can be consumed.
We are working to change this and hope to fix this by the time
you read this section.
