Questions should include
• Is there bias in this piece?
• Whose voice is missing?
• Whose perspective is it from?
Discuss with students the fact that when the Scugog Island land was
flooded, the Mississaugas moved to the town of Coldwater for two
years. Then, they had to repurchase their land to come back to Scugog
Island, despite the fact that they were not compensated for losing it in
the first place. Ask:
• What questions do you have about this?
• What is happening now in this area?
• What challenges would have faced the Mississaugas people upon
their return to this land?
You may wish to facilitate these questions by asking them during a
circle discussion.
