About the Ogemawahj Tribal
Council
The Ogemawahj Tribal Council (OTC) is an organization that
provides advisory services to six First Nations communities. They
are Alderville First Nation, Beausoleil First Nation, Chippewas
of Georgina Island First Nation, Moose Deer Point First Nation,
Chippewas of Rama First Nation, and Mississaugas of Scugog
Island First Nation. Many of the people who work at the OTC
are members of one of the six communities that make up the
Tribal Council.
One of the areas of service for the OTC is education. The OTC has
worked with many people in member communities to develop
a series of six books that profile the history, geography, culture,
and contemporary life of each community. These books are
being offered for use among our own communities, along with
our partner district school boards and others who may find them
useful and interesting. We believe that students, community
members, and all Canadians should not only learn about First
Nations, but learn from First Nations. It is our hope that, through
this material, those who live alongside and among us will gain a
deeper understanding of what our lives are about.
Without the contributions of the Moose Deer Point community,
this book would not be possible. We are grateful for their
stories, photos, and support.
