WORDS TO KNOW Some of our members express their First Nations spirituality
through a drum group. For a time, some of our members sat
powwow: spiritual gatherings
where First Nations people as a drum with youth from Beausoleil First Nation. Their group
gather to celebrate our
was known as the Taabik Singers. They were well known for
traditions through drumming,
singing, and dancing their songs and skills on the drum, and they released an album.
Though the group no longer regularly plays together, drummers
from our community still play at many of our socials and go to
other communities for events such as socials and powwows.
Other members of our community also travel to powwows in
other communities for the chance to visit with old friends and to
talk to people they have not seen for a long time. Moose Deer
Point First Nation has not hosted a powwow since the early
1990s, but many of our members still participate in powwow life
through dance or drumming.
Many of our members live their lives according to the values of
the Seven Grandfathers Teachings. We learn these teachings
