Land Use
Gordon Bay is where the First Nation has its offices and where
there are community businesses. It is considered our downtown.
The Administration building (like a City Hall), the Health Centre,
and the Community Centre are all in Gordon Bay. Gordon Bay
also has the Moose Point First Nation Marina.
Although we have a second marina and a small restaurant at
King Bay, the land in King Bay and Isaac Bay is mostly used for
our homes. The King Bay and Isaac Bay areas both have direct
access to Georgian Bay. In 2018, there were 62 households in
our First Nation. These homes are in the most beautiful areas of
Georgian Bay.
Our community has been built along the shores of the point,
leaving much of the central areas in their original state. The
many wetlands and rocky areas in the central areas make the
land difficult to build on or use for many purposes. We have
considered creating nature trails and an Outdoor Education
Centre, which could explore the wetlands and other forested
areas. We are still considering these plans, but have yet to
decide how best to use our lands as we move forward.
